DeAndre Yedlin Guides Inter Miami Past Sounders in Seattle Homecoming

In his first game at his former team, defender DeAndre Yedlin not only helped Inter Miami to a 1-0 win at the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, he set up the lone goal. Yedlin sent a left-wing cross to Robbie Robinson, who slotted his effort past goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland for the game’s only goal in the 42nd minute.

The Sounders’ first Homegrown Player signing, Yedlin played in Seattle from 2013-14 before joining Tottenham following the 2014 FIFA World Cup. After eight seasons playing in England and Turkey, he returned Stateside earlier this year with Inter Miami.

After gaining just one point through the club’s first five matches, the result gave Inter Miami its second-straight win of the season.

PEFOK CONVERTS AGAIN

Jordan Pefok continued to fill the net in what has become a magical club season.

The 25-year-old striker tallied his 24th goal across all competitions for Young Boys in its 2-1 defeat at Zurich in the Swiss Super League on Saturday, April 16.

Trailing 2-0, Pefok pulled a goal back when he converted Ulisses Garcia’s cross from the left past goalkeeper Yanick Brecher in the 72nd minute. Though a comeback was sparked, Young Boys couldn’t find the equalizer.

The U.S. Men’s National Team forward has celebrated a league-best 19 goals over 29 league games and on another five occasions in 12 cup matches.

Third-place Young Boys (12-7-11, 47 points) has six games remaining this season.

INTO THE FINAL

Midfielder Cristian Roldan and forward Jordan Morris helped the Seattle Sounders reach the Concacaf Champions League final in a 1-1 draw against New York City FC at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. on Wednesday, April 13.

Seattle won the aggregate goals series, 4-2, after posting a 3-1 home in the first leg. The Sounders, who are trying to become the first MLS side to win the competition, will visit Pumas UNAM in Mexico City on Wednesday, April 27 and host the Liga MX side at Lumen Field on Wednesday, May 4.

Chelsea and Christian Pulisic clinched a spot in the English FA Cup Final with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, April 17. An unused sub in the match, Pulisic and Chelsea will appear in a third-straight FA Cup Final when they face Liverpool on Saturday, May 14 at Wembley.

SO CLOSE

Fulham, which boasts USMNT defenders Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream, needs a win in its last five matches in the English Championship to clinch promotion to the Premier League. The first-place side (25-8-8, 83) will have an opportunity to accomplish that twice this week.

The Cottagers host Preston North End on Wednesday, April 19 visits AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, April 23. They could have booked a spot but dropped a 2-1 decision at Derby County on Friday, April 15.

CLEANING UP AGAIN

Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina recorded his fifth shutout in seven games this young MLS season in a scoreless draw with the LA Galaxy at home on Saturday. Three of those clean sheets have been 0-0 ties, so he has had very little room for error. At the age of 17 years, 336 days Slonina has nine career shutouts, the most of any MLS ‘keeper prior to their 21st birthday.

NYCFC captain Sean Johnson made five saves to notch his second clean sheet of the season in a 6-0 triumph over Real Salt Lake at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, April 17.

CONGRATS RICHY LEDEZMA

USMNT midfielder Richy Ledezma lifted silverware over the weekend as PSV Eindhoven defeated Ajax in the KNVB Beker Final on Sunday.

An unused sub in the Dutch Cup Final, Ledezma has been back on the PSV bench since December after returning from a ruptured ACL suffered at the end of 2020.

Ledezma will hope to contribute to second-place PSV’s push down the stretch as they sit four points back of Ajax with five matches left to play in the Eredivisie campaign.
