Spanish FA joins Barcelona and Real Madrid’s lawsuit against La Liga CVC deal

Spanish FA joins Barcelona and Real Madrid’s lawsuit against La Liga CVC deal

The Spanish FA (RFEF) has joined the lawsuit in opposition to La Liga’s offer with private fairness business CVC Funds Companions — which is led by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.

On Thursday, the RFEF explained it is seeking “the annulment of the agreement” between La Liga and CVC, which it describes as causing “incalculable damage” to Spanish soccer.

La Liga clubs voted in favour of the offer in December, with 37 out of the 42 groups in Spain backing the arrangement — termed ‘LaLiga Boost’ — at a general assembly.

Times afterwards, Real, Barcelona and Athletic announced that they were having authorized action against La Liga, describing the “ruinous” partnership as “an unlawful transaction”. The three clubs had long given that been in opposition to these types of an arrangement.

Barcelona, Genuine and Athletic are so opposed to the CVC offer that the trio proposed their individual alternative to the settlement before the ratification of the offer in December, which they called ‘Project Sustainable’.

The deal — well worth €2.1 billion (£1.7 billion) — among La Liga and CVC sees Spanish clubs receive extra funding in exchange for a stake in a new corporation that will get the country’s broadcast profits and sponsorship rights for the next 50 decades.

The RFEF added it was performing now “to protect against Spanish soccer from staying conditioned for the following 50 years”, and accused the league of taking benefit of a “moment of financial weakness” with the expenditure offer.

Only La Liga and the CVC, the RFEF ongoing, will benefit from the financial commitment partnership, which it said makes the evolution of experienced soccer in Spain “impossible”.
