Phoenix Suns’ Chris Paul receives Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA award for advocacy of girls’ and women’s basketball

Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul is the initial receiver of the Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award, the league introduced Sunday.

The honor is for substantial contributions to the improvement of girls’ and women’s basketball, along with advocacy for the WNBA. The WNBA and Vanessa Bryant presented Paul with the award at the NBA All-Star Sport on Sunday night in Cleveland.

The late Kobe Bryant was a longtime supporter of the WNBA and women’s basketball, and his daughter Gigi played youth basketball. They died in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26, 2020.

“I have witnessed firsthand Chris’ appreciation of the WNBA and the recreation at each individual amount for ladies and women,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert explained. “His ardent help of our game strongly displays the legacy of Kobe and Gigi. He serves as a chief and role design for other professional athletes around developing the long term of the video game for youthful ladies and all lovers.”

Paul has attended WNBA game titles during the frequent season and playoffs, and also supports the youth girls’ sport by means of camps and the CP3 Basketball Academy.

The WNBA also will make a donation to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports activities Foundation, a nonprofit business dedicated to assisting underserved athletes.
